The Greenpan Story
GreenPan is a Belgian brand with an international reputation. It’s the brainchild of two school friends: Jan Helskens and Wim De Veirman. Upon discovering that traditional non-stick pans released toxins when overheated and used PFOA during the manufacture of the coating, they set out to create a new alternative. After a long search, they found the perfect material for their range: a ceramic coating called Thermolon. With the biggest challenge out of the way, the duo put an expert team together and had a lot of pleasure in designing cookware that looked beautiful, performed brilliantly and made cooking even more of a joy. 10 years later; their pans are loved around the world.
Made from natural materials
Healthy ceramic non-stick coating called Thermolon™ is made from a sand derivative that does not require the use of toxic chemicals like PFOA or PFAS during the production process. Safe for your loved ones, good for the environment.
PFAS Since the PFOA ban, a range of similar chemicals from the same family of PFASs are being used – and they could be equally dangerous. They are under investigation at the moment as they are thought to likely disrupt hormone balance and could be linked to other long-term health problems, such as cancer and birth defects.
PFOA PFOA, sometimes called ‘C8’, was once used in the manufacturing process to help disperse PTFE particles into water and avoid them clumping together. It lingers in the environment and can stay in our blood stream for a long time. In February 2006, the EPA’s Science Advisory Board voted that PFOA should be considered a likely carcinogen. And, since 2015, it’s been banned around the world.
Lead and Cadmium Some traditional non-stick pans still contain lead and cadmium. Both are poisonous, even in tiny doses.
No toxic fumes
Thermolon™ is heat resistant up to high temperatures (as high as 450°C). So should you accidently overheat your pan*, it won’t blister or release toxic fumes. *Did you know? On some stovetops it only takes 3 minutes for any cookware to overheat, while many traditional coated pans could release toxic fumes when overheated.
Conducts heat beautifully
Thermolon™ coating is a great heat conductor*. That means you can cook at a lower heat setting and save energy. What’s more, your pan will get to temperature quickly and cook your food more evenly. *Thermolon™ conductivity is around 2.0 to 2.4 W m-1 K-1, whereas PTFE is just 0.25 W m-1 K-1. (but you probably already knew that, right?!)
Superior Non-Stick
The Thermolon™ ceramic non-stick surface allows you to use less oil or butter while still achieving excellent frying results. Food releases quickly and easily, plus, cleanup is a breeze. Just wipe your pan clean with a soft cloth and soapy water, no need for scrubbing.
Green by name Green by nature
60% less CO2 is emitted during the curing phase of production of Thermolon™ coatings, compared to the emissions during the curing phase of production of traditional coatings.
